Courses for deaf and hearing impaired

The Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center belief in the value of persons with disabilities (estimated by 10% to 15% in Egypt) and the importance of their rehabilitation and integration into the society as one of their basic rights.

Since 2015 the Center has sought to develop their abilities, and integrate them at different educational levels from primary school to university. As well as engaging them in social and recreation activities, and prepare them to be enrolled in universities, which is a  very important stride and considered a precedent in Egypt and promotes education right.

The Center also sought to enroll 128 students in the different departments of Ain Shams University and Cairo University.

Egyptian Sign Language Training courses

The Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center and Ain Shams University signed a protocol of cooperation in several fields concerning the deaf and hearing impaired, including holding  several training courses for the first time in Egypt to teach hearing people the sign language to qualify them to communicate with deaf and hard of hearing in Egyptian universities and other institutions.

The Courses had been attended by more than 100 people.

The Center also provides job opportunities for skilled trainees as sign language interpreters at Egyptian universities. Eight new translators were appointed for the academic year 2017-2018, bringing the number to 15 translators at Ain Shams and Cairo Universities.
