\u00abNew York Times\u00bb published a report on the three Christian denominations \u00a0in Egypt\u00a0consultations with the government on the \u00a0\u00abconstruction and renovation of churches\u00bb\u00a0law.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The newspaper stated that, The Coptic thinker “Kamal Zakher”, described\u00a0these consultations as “Camp David”\u00a0negotiations, pointing out that Egypt’s Christians believe that the amendments made to\u00a0\u00abbuilding churches\u00bb law , did not take in consideration\u00a0citizenship\u00a0rights, and \u00a0Egypt’s Christians feelings.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The newspaper pointed out that discussions are strictly confidential, and\u00a0quoted \u00abZakher\u00bb saying: \u00abThe government is going in a\u00a0way and Copts are going\u00a0in another way\u00bb, hoping to get out a law that satisfies all parties so as not to be challenged in courts.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The newspaper said that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with the pope, “Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria,” at the end of last month, noting that the meeting was expected to help in issuing\u00a0\u00a0“building churches” law in a satisfactory manner for all parties.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Coptic writer, “Amin Fahim,” expressed his perplexity by the way in which the government is working, saying: \u00abHe does not think that the government is working\u00a0without the knowledge and guidance of the president, adding that the Copts still trust president Sisi, but they need to see acts and not just intentions.<\/span><\/h2>\n

\u00abFahim\u00bb\u00a0sees , that the secret behind the government’s reluctance to approve the building churches\u00a0bill is the fear from\u00a0Salafis\u00a0reactions, even though\u00a0Christians stood with the army on June 30, blaming the state for the majority of sectarian problems\u00a0between Muslims and Christians in Upper Egypt, stressing that the law will remove all causes of tension.<\/span><\/h2>\n

At another level the American newspaper shed light on accusation made by the writer and political Coptic thinker “Gamal Asaad,” that Egypt has a lot of illegal organizations that negatively affect the course of the discussions that are working to implement Copts demands.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The newspaper believes that it is hard to deny that the approval of this kind of legislation requires first conviction of a Muslim majority in Egypt, otherwise law would not be\u00a0issued neither by government nor even by\u00a0president Sisi himself.<\/span><\/h2>\n
