It allows the British people\u2026 to rely on the full strength of their national tradition,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the Patriarch stressed.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">He gave the Queen\u00a0the Icon of \u201cOur Lady Who is Quick to Hear.\u201d The Queen presented the Patriarch with portraits of herself and her husband.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">Earlier Tuesday, Patriarch Kirill met Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the Church of England\u2019s most senior cleric, to discuss Christianity in Europe and those challenges the Church in Europe faces now, Volkov said.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">Patriarch Kirill is on a four-day visit to London. It is his first official visit to the UK as head of the Russian Orthodox Church.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">On Sunday, hundreds of people, including the Archbishop of Canterbury and Prince Michael of Kent, gathered in London\u2019s Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God and All Saints to attend a historic service conducted by Patriarch Kirill.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">After the Service, Kirill addressed people who had gathered for the festivities, emphasizing that both the Russian Orthodox Church and the Church of England play a critical role in international relations and peacebuilding measures, even under the current political circumstances.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\"><em>\u201cThe Church is a community open to everyone, [it] erases all human controversies. Even a very rich man stands next to the poor one, high-ranking officials stand next to the common people. The Church should also play a role in international relations. Through faith, through the Church, the soul of a nation is manifested,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0the Patriarch said.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">It is the first time in 25 years that the head of the Russian Orthodox Church has visited the UK. Prior to this, Patriarch Alexy II, Patriarch Kirill\u2019s predecessor, visited the country in 1991, and before him the then-First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Alexy I, visited the UK in 1946.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'andale mono', times;\">The Russian Orthodox Church has had a presence in Britain since 1716, when the Russian Embassy Church was set up on the orders of Tsar Peter the Great. In October 1962, the Moscow Patriarchate\u2019s Diocese of Sourozh was founded, which is the Russian Orthodox Church\u2019s official (and largest) branch in Britain and Ireland.
