His Holiness presented the Pope Shenouda Award for Wisdom and Compassion &#8211; an annual international award &#8211; to US Scientist Dr. Martin Schreiber, Professor and Chairman\u00a0of the Department of Nephrology\u00a0and Hypertension at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, for the prominent role he played in the field of scientific research in medicine and humanitarian services. He has received many international prizes, including: Best US Doctor and the Humanitarian Award from the Kidney\u00a0Disease Institute in Ohio.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Martin Schreiber was born in Buffalo, New York on 1st October 1950, a second son to the family of Martin and Rita Schreiber with 5 brothers and 3 sisters.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He spent his childhood working at the family&#8217;s dairy farm and excelled at science in middle school, earning the top prize at the science contest of the entire city, having worked on deconstructing amino acids in animal blood. After high school, he traveled to Cleveland, Ohio where he enrolled at John Carroll University, a Jesuit university, from 1968-1972. Then he enrolled in Medical School at North Carolina&#8217;s Faculty of Medicine from 1972 &#8211; 1976.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He completed his internship [76\/77] at Cleveland, Ohio, then became a resident doctor at Cleveland Clinic, in the General Practitioner Department [77-79].<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then came the clinical fellowship [79\/80] at the Nephrology and Hypertension Department. He worked as a researcher of kidney diseases at Massachusetts Hospital [80-82], then as a researcher in the Disease&#8217;s Science Ward at the same hospital [81-82].<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He then took a post as Chairman\u00a0of the Nephrology and Hypertension Department from 8\/2005 to 7\/2012 in Cleveland Clinic, to become world renowned expert in peritoneal<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dialysis,<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> hypertension and Intensive Care related renal diseases. He published many international research papers related to renal dialysis and hypertension, chronic renal failure, other renal diseases and Intensive Care. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He was summoned to deliver scientific lectures all over the world in scientific conferences and renowned international medical centers. Dr. Schreiber shone as a pioneer scientific personality specializing in peritoneal dialysis, training a vast number of doctors around the world in this field. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During his tenure at Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Schreiber took a number of important managerial posts: <\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211;\u00a0Medical Committee Chairman &#8211;\u00a0Chairman of Team of Doctors &#8211;\u00a0Elected Member of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation &#8211;\u00a0Chairman of Nephrology and Hypertension <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">* As Chief Doctor he polarized many innovative scientists in each of their fields, the number of exceptional staff multiplying during his tenure as department Chairman. His chairmanship of the department witnessed a notable increase in innovative research beneficial to humanity, and restructuring of the department to several specialized exceptional centers.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Due to all this, he led a team of doctors at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio to become the top center of nephrology in the United States of America. Dr. Schreiber excelled during his medical career, thanks to his delicate and accurate treatment of his patients, each according to his cultural and psychological level.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">He obtained:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Humanitarian Award from the Kidney Foundation\u00a0of Ohio<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Man of the Year by Kidney\u00a0Foundation of Ohio<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Ohio City Service Award<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Honorary PhD from John Carroll University<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Best Doctor in the USA at the level of humanitarian service for the poor in Honduras in Central America.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino; font-size: 14pt;\">Dr. Schreiber has grown accustomed for many lengthy years to accompany a group of distinct students to help him in teaching and treating the poor and at orphanages, for which he received the \u00a0Heroism Award for Assisting Honduras Children.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino;
