Dr. Father Makkari Abdullah, 90, priest of\u00a0Archangel\u00a0Michael Church, Tuson, southern Shobra region,\u00a0departed after serving the Holy Sepulcher for nearly half a century.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
The late father was born in Menia on September 22, 1928.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
He earned his doctorate in pure\u00a0mathematics from Germany in 1962 and was a professor at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. He became head of mathematics department at the same college in 1976 for four years. He teached at the university for more than 40 years, bringing together his priestly\u00a0service and university work which is considered a rare and\u00a0exceptional situation.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
He was also awarded the State Encouragement Award under the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1968\u00a0and Sciences and Arts first degree accolade \nin 1970<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n
He was ordained as a priest during the\u00a0exarchate of Pope Kyrillos VI, who\u00a0gave him the name Makkari and commissioned the late Bishop Maximus, Bishop of Qalioubia, to ordain him, on 10 July 1968.<\/span><\/h2>\n
And was promoted to Qommosia (reverend) rank\u00a0by\u00a0 His Holiness Pope Tawadros II on 5 March 2013.<\/span><\/h2>\n
The funeral service\u00a0will be held\u00a0in his church at 2:00 pm\u00a0on Tuesday, 10 April 2018.<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
