The Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church held its annual meeting on Friday, under the chairmanship of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria\u00a0and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark and HG\u00a0Anba Raphael, Secretary of the Holy Synod, and participation of 111 members of the Holy Synod.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Holy Synod expressed its sincere thanks and appreciation to President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi and his assistants and to all concerned bodies in Egypt and to the Libyan authorities for the sincere efforts that they have made with great efficiency to return the bodies of the martyrs of\u00a0Egypt\u00a0and the Church who were beheaded in Libya.<\/span><\/h2>\n

They also\u00a0appraised\u00a0 the sincere efforts of the state to revive the path of the Holy Family, making it one of the important monuments\u00a0of religious tourism in Egypt.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Holy Synod payed great tribute\u00a0to Archdeacon\u00a0St. Habib Girgis for his leading role in ecclesiastical education and founding of Sunday schools 100 years ago which the church celebrated\u00a0this year.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Decisions and recommendations of the Holy Synod were as follows:<\/span><\/h2>\n

1- First: Recognition of St. George “Margegis” Monastery – Ireland<\/span><\/h2>\n

2-\u00a0Setting ecclesiastical and legal procedures\u00a0of \u00a0recognition\u00a0of saints from several items, the most important of which is\u00a0passage of at least\u00a040 years after the Saint departure.<\/span><\/h2>\n

3- Approbation of a new article in the\u00a0bylaw of the Holy Synod,\u00a0regarding the composition of the Standing Committee, its role and membership duration .<\/span><\/h2>\n

4-\u00a0Approbation of the amendment of the article in the bylaw of the Holy Synod concerning choosing Main Committees rapporteurs to be by secret ballot.<\/span><\/h2>\n

5- Election of HG\u00a0Anba Daniel, Bishop of Maadi as Secretary of the Holy Synod<\/span><\/h2>\n

and\u00a0the Secretariat Committee\u00a0including:<\/span>

– HG Anba Gabriel, Bishop of Beni Suef<\/span><\/h2>\n

– HG Anba Gabriel, Bishop of Austria<\/span><\/h2>\n

–\u00a0HG Anba Julius, General Bishop of Old Cairo churches<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

For the next 3 years<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

Recommendations<\/span><\/h2>\n

1- His Holiness Pope Tawadros proposed\u00a0holding rapprochement meeting between all the patriarchs of the Orthodox churches of the two communities in Alexandria Church. The Holy Synod welcomed this pioneering idea and a committee of\u00a0metropolitans and bishops was formed to follow up the implementation of this proposal.<\/span><\/h2>\n

2- Forming a committee\u00a0consisting\u00a0of 5 members of the Holy Synod to study and review the educational delusions issued by some church teachers.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The Holy Synod called the Coptic\u00a0congregation not to follow some of the suspicious and untruthful websites that unfortunately carry Christian names, that promote fake news\u00a0and facts, and harm the established traditions of our glorious Church and distort its image\u00a0before its congregation.<\/span><\/h2>\n

At the end of the meeting, Anba Raphael thanked His Holiness Pope Tawadros, the Fathers of the Holy Synod, the Committee of Secretaries and the Priests members of the Technical Committee of the Secretariat of the Holy Synod, and congratulated the newly elected members of the Committee of Secretaries, wishing them a successful service under the patronage of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II.<\/span><\/h2>\n
