On Thursday, February, 21st<\/sup>, 2019 evening, the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center celebrated the awarding of Dr. Makram Mehany\u2019s Award for Scientific Innovation, under the patronage of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and the Patriarch of the See of St. Mark and His Grace Bishop Ermia, the General Bishop, Head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, in the presence of Dr. Hala Zayed, the Minister of Health, Mario Caro Tonito, Malta\u2019s Ambassador to Cairo and His Grace Bishop Moussa, the Bishop of Youth.<\/span><\/h2>\n
In her speech at the celebration, Dr. Hala Zayed, the Minister of Health, expressed her happiness to be at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, noting that Dr. Makram Mehany has had a great role in pharmaceutical industry in Egypt.<\/span><\/h2>\n
She added that it is a pride for any researcher to be awarded Dr. Makram Mehany\u2019s Prize, as he is a great scientific, humane and patriotic stature, in whom Egypt takes much pride.<\/span><\/h2>\n
The Minister of Health said that this year\u2019s award holder wins a prize bearing the name of a great figure in the history of the country, noting that she is considering commemorating the names of the great scientific figures that have provided great services to the country and hopes that the next session of the competition will witness a wider participation and the registration of more distinguished scientific researches aiming at serving the Egyptian society.<\/span><\/h2>\n
His Grace Bishop Moussa, the General Bishop of the Youth, expressed his happiness at joining the celebration of Dr. Makram Mehany\u2019s Award for Scientific Innovation, noting that Dr. Makram Mehany was called the Saint of Medicine for providing medical help to the poor and needy.<\/span><\/h2>\n
Bishop Ermia, the General Bishop and Head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, expressed thanks to the participants in the celebration of Dr. Makram Mehany\u2019s Award for Scientific Innovation, led by Dr. Hala Zayed, the Minister of Health, Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, President of Ain Shams University and members of the House of Representatives.<\/span><\/h2>\n
Bishop Ermia said that Dr. Makram Mehany founded the National Observatory for Citizenship and that he has made great contributions to the pharmaceutical industry, established a group of companies and factories in Egypt and a number of African countries, pointing out that the Committee of Examining the Award has made great efforts in selecting the winning research.<\/span><\/h2>\n
Bishop Ermia expressed thanks to the family of the late Dr. Makram Mehany for their support of the award.<\/span><\/h2>\n
Dr. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Shuqair, Professor of Urology at the Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University and the winner of Dr. Makram Mehany\u2019s Award for Scientific Innovation, said that he was happy to receive the award in its current year and hoped that all state institutions would be interested in scientific research and adapting it to serve the community.<\/span><\/h2>\n
From his end, Dr. Emad Basilious, Professor of Pharmacy at Cairo University, a Member of the Central Administration of the Ministry of Health and the winner of Dr. Makram Mehany\u2019s award for young researchers, asserted his happiness to receive the award. He pointed out that the research he submitted for permission is a treatment to stop the hemorrhage, and that this award encourages him to conduct more researches. It is time to combine researchers\u2019 efforts with the Ministry of Health and pharmaceutical companies for community service.<\/span><\/h2>\n
The Scientific Committee to select the winner of this year’s competition was headed by Dr. Abdel Wahab Ezzat, President of Ain Shams University. 42 scientific papers were submitted, at the end of the celebration, the participants in the competition were honored, in the presence of a group of former ministers, university presidents, deans of the faculties, ambassadors to Cairo, MPs and a group of journalists and public figures.<\/span><\/h2>\n
