Archaeological Church of Great Martyr St. Mercurius celebrated Yesterday the vesper service of the feast of relocating St. Mercurius relics from Caesarea in Cappadocia to his church in Old Cairo in 1488 AD by the late Pope Yoannis XIII the 94th Pope of Alexandria.
HG Bishop Julius, General Bishop of old Cairo Churches,Manial, Fom El-Khalig and general and social service Diocese, held feast vesper service and perfumed the Saint relics as a large number of worshipers that love St. Mercurius attended the vesper service.
Mentioning that the Church of St. Mercurius was the headquarter of the Pope for 256 years from 1047 AD during in the pontificate of HH Pope Christodhulos the 66th Pope to 1303 AD as in the pontificate of HH Pope Yoannis VIII the 80th Pope and consists of two churches one on top of the other, with many little side chapels dedicated to various saints.
The church also contain St-Barsoum EL-Erian cave where he lived for 20 years praying and fasting.
