The Patriarchs of the Orient have held an extraordinary urgent meeting to discuss the latest developments in Northern Iraq, in the wake of eviction of more than 100,000 Christians and thousands of Yazidis and other minorities from the towns and villages of the plains of Nineveh.
“We consider what ISIS is doing to be genocide and forceable eviction, fully consistent with the heinous acts and practices of the Nazis, such as assassinations, looting, rape, and violation of the most basic human rights.
Henceforth, we request the International Security Council to bear its responsibility towards this massacre. We demand the following:
- Fulfilling international justice
- Offering urgent aid to the forcibly evicted
- Providing them with protection
- Applying pressure on the countries that equip ISIS with weapons and finance them directly and indirectly, in order to force them to stop doing so
The repercussions of ISIS’ actions will be catastrophic at a global humanitarian level, not merely throughout the Middle East.
We extend our condolences to the families of martyrs, and the Military, praying that the Lord would grant Lebanon security and stability.
It’s worth mentioning that the Council of Patriarchs of the Orient resumed the actions of their urgent meeting in Beirut, Lebanon for all patriarchs of different churches from varied denominations, Orthodox and Catholic to study a plan for confronting the eviction from the Middle East and Arab countries of all Christians of the Orient, without inviting Pope Tawadros II, Pope and Patriarch of the Orthodox Church, following his omission to outwardly renounce what has befallen the Christians of Iraq and Syria, content with praying for the “agonizing”, not specifically the Christians of Syria and Iraq, especially Mosul, equating them with the war against the terrorist group Hamas in Gaza, which fomented the war of Israel against the Palestinians of Gaza.
