Foreword
St. Basil the Great of Caesarea of Cappadocia is considered one of the mighty Church fathers; he is known as the author of the mass identified as the Liturgy of Saint Basil. Saint Basil played a great role in theological thinking and church missions with his two friends; St. Gregory of Nazianzus and St. John Chrysostom. Together with his friend Gregory of Nazianzus and his brother St. Gregory of Nyssa, he managed to set a theological thought combining the School of Antioch and the School of Alexandria, which was called according to “the Cappadocia’s Fathers”.
Although St. Basil departed at a young age – 49 years old, he has great works that are placed in four parts among the father’s books written in Greek language, he also wrote several books about dogma and reclusive monasticism, articles, interpretation works and epistles.
In this book, we present two sermons of St. Basil about “the Creation of Man”, translated by our beloved father Priest Louka Youssef, the Priest of St. Mina Church in Al Warraq and the Researcher at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center. May the Lord compensate him with all good for his efforts and toil in introducing these two precious sermons.
May the Lord make this book a reason of blessing to all who read it, through the intercessions and prayers of our mother, St. Virgin Mary the Theotokos, St. Mark the Apostle, Evangelist, Martyr and the Preacher of Egyptian homes and St. Basil the Great and through the prayers of His Holiness Great Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark.
