HH Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark, inaugurated St. Anthony Monastery in Madaba, some 30 kilometers southwest of Amman in the presence of copts in Jordan .
HG Anba Anthonios Bishop of Jerusalem and a number of priests of Churches in Jordan, as well as the delegation accompanying His Holiness including Anba Aalarion bishop of Ezbet Hagana, Almaza and Zahraa Nasr City churches, Anba Hermena bishop of in Ain Shams and Al-Mataria churches, Rev. Angelios Isaac and Rev. Ammonius Adel secretaries of His Holiness participated in the inauguration.
The foundation stone of the monastery was laid by late Pope Shenouda III of Alexandria in 2005.
Pope Tawadros II also visited Mount Nebo where he was briefed about the historical and religious importance of this place as a destination for Christian pilgrims.
It is the first visit of His Holiness Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria to Jordan since his enthronement on the throne of St. Mark.
