HH Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark, headed the funeral service of Dr. Tharwat Bassily, the founder of the Coptic channel Ctv, with the participation of a number of the church’s Pontiffs and a large number of priests, monks, channel employees, his family and loving ones.
The funeral service were held at Sts. Virgin Mary and Athanasius Church in Nasr City on the afternoon of December 16, 2017. The body was buried in a tomb prepared specially at Sts. Virgin Mary and Shenouda Church in elSalam city. His family will hold a solace on Sunday evening at St. Pope Athanasius hall in St. Mark Cathedral in Abbasia.
Dr. Tharwat Basili departed at the age of 77 on December 5 in Chicago, USA. Tharwat Thabet Bassili was born on September 14, 1940. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Cairo University in 1967. He also worked in the field of medicine, , And was appointed as a member of the Shura Council for several sessions and chaired the Health Committee for 15 years.
He was also a member of the Denominational Council of the Coptic Orthodox Church. He is one of the notables of the Coptic Church in the present era. He was very interested in serving the brethren of the Lord, poor and needy people. He also contributed in spreading Coptic awareness through CTV channel he established and he was also keen to provide jobs for many people in his companies.
