Life might seem hard for man does not know much about it. Yet, in reality he does not seek the knowledge that eases this hardship. So, seek the edifying knowledge that pushes you forward and opens new vistas before you and others.
I read an interesting story about a poor European family that decided to go to America, seeking work and wealth in the end of the last century. Due to the family’s poverty, they carried cheese to eat through the first days of the journey to save money. Yet, the youngest son refused the cheese, asking for another type of food. His father asked him to be patient: for only ten days were left to reach America where they could buy the food they desired. But, the child insisted to take money and buy some ice-cream, just like other children.
He was too adamant to listen to his parents’ words about their lack of money and inability to pay more after buying expensive tickets. The father offered the child some money to buy ice-cream. Two hours later, the child returned happily. When his father asked him about the reason for his smile, the child said, “I ate the ice-cream, and many other tasty things.” He went on telling his parents about what he ate. The father was astonished and asked, “Did you buy all this with those few pennies?” The child replied, “No, this was for free! The ticket includes food.”
Here I pose a question: How would this family have had they known that the ticket included food and they could eat whatever they wanted? What if the child did not insist on searching?
Though simple, the story tackles many people’s stances: as they prefer to live with what they perceive of life. They do not discover its depth or numerous aspects through which they can thrive and help others.
Life is a journey that needs a lot of knowledge and discoveries that pave its path. So, read a lot on your way, think deeply, and asked the more experienced to be happier and wiser.
