On Sunday, April 23, 2017, Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark, headed to Kuwait on his first-ever visit, After being officially invited by Emir of Kuwait. His Holiness is due to return to Egypt on Thursday to meet with Pope Francis who is making a historical visit to Cairo on April 28.
First-ever visit to Kuwait
Pope Tawadros II arrived on Sunday at Kuwait International Airport for his first-ever visit to Kuwait and first pastoral visit to Coptic church there.

During the visit, HH Pope Tawadros II is accompanied by a delegation including a number of bishops: Their Eminences Anba Bakhomius, Metropolitan of the Beheira, Matrouh and the five Western cities (who was a consecrated deacon in Kuwait before his monasticism), Bishop Morcos, Bishop of Shubra el-Kheima and Anba Yusab General bishop of Luxor.
His Holiness is also accompanied by Anba Antonios, Metropolitan of Jerusalem and the Gulf States.

The Pope’s was invited to visit Kuwait by His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, for the first visit since his enthronement in December 2012.

HH Pope Tawadros II was received at Kuwait’s ministerial airport by HH Sheikh Ali Jarah Al-Sabah, Deputy Minister of Diwan Al-Amiri, Salem Ghassab Zamanan, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Egypt and a delegation from Egyptian diplomacy and from the Coptic Church in Kuwait.

The Pope delivered a sermon about love at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Kuwait
HH Pope Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark,delivered a sermon entitled “Love” in St. Mark’s Cathedral on the occasion of his first visit to Kuwait, His Holiness stressed that we must love all people, even those who disagree with us.
The Pope pointed out that love is not in speech but in deeds and action, explaining that love turns to joy and remove fear from hearts.

• HH Pope Tawadros visits Amricani Cultural Centre in Kuwait
His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark, paid a visit to Americani Cultural Center- Dar al Athar al Islamiyyah in Qabla, Kuwait.
His Holiness toured the exhibition of ancient East masterpieces and the exhibition of Kuwait in the ancient east and was informed about the ancient Islamic and historical monuments.
HH Pope Tawadros II wrote in the guestbook “I have enjoyed the roots of Kuwait history and have heard a full explanation about the beginning of this building as a hospital where doctors provided health care to the people of Kuwait. And the work developed till Kuwait payed back and provided health service in many areas outside the country, my appreciation and thanks to this beautiful architectural work and always good luck.

HH Pope Tawadros II inaugurates St. Mark’s Cathedral in Kuwait
HH Pope Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark, inaugurated on Tuesday morning St. Marks Cathedral in Al-Hawaly area in Kuwait.
The mass was headed by His Holiness and Their Eminences Anba Bakhomios, Bishop of the Beheira and the five western cities, Anba Morcos Bishop of Shubra el-Kheima, Anba Yusab Bishop of Luxor, and Anba Antonios Metropolitan of Jerusalem and the Near East.

HH Pope Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria, and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark, lauded the Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations, saying that “Egypt and Kuwait are accordant” and His Holiness thanked the Kuwaiti leadership for his reception in Kuwait.
He added “We congratulate you for the inauguration of the altars of the church, may our Lord fill you with happiness and we pray that you always be associated with our Lord and with the Church, Today, we celebrate the liberation of Sinai in Egypt and you celebrate the inauguration of the Church”.
