Dr. Father Makkari Abdullah, 90, priest of Archangel Michael Church, Tuson, southern Shobra region, departed after serving the Holy Sepulcher for nearly half a century.
The late father was born in Menia on September 22, 1928.
He earned his doctorate in pure mathematics from Germany in 1962 and was a professor at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. He became head of mathematics department at the same college in 1976 for four years. He teached at the university for more than 40 years, bringing together his priestly service and university work which is considered a rare and exceptional situation.
He was also awarded the State Encouragement Award under the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1968 and Sciences and Arts first degree accolade
in 1970.
He was ordained as a priest during the exarchate of Pope Kyrillos VI, who gave him the name Makkari and commissioned the late Bishop Maximus, Bishop of Qalioubia, to ordain him, on 10 July 1968.
And was promoted to Qommosia (reverend) rank by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II on 5 March 2013.
The funeral service will be held in his church at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, 10 April 2018.

. A number of bishops and priests attend the funeral of Scientist Makari Abdullah
The funeral prayer of Dr. Father Makari Abdullah priest of the Church of Archangel Michael in Toson, southern Shobra was held on Tuesday afternoon April 10, 2018 in the Church of the Archangel in Toson, and was attended by a number of bishops, members of the Holy Synod, as well as a large number of monks, priests and the congregation of the Church.
The service was also attended by a number of members of the House of Representatives and executive leaders of the governorates of Giza and Cairo, in addition to many public figures and scholars who met the deceased and had strong love ties with him. Also attended the prayer a large number of children of Fr. Makari Abdullah who were taught by him and learned a lot from him.
HG Anba Ermia, General Bishop and head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, thanked on behalf of the family of Father Makkari His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and all the doctors who took care of the deceased, as well as all who attended the funeral prayer or sent condolences telegraphs.
Fr. Makkari Abdullah passed away at the age of 90 years, having served the Holy Altar for nearly half a century.
