Engineer Onsi Naguib Sawiris, One of the most prominent Egyptian businessmen, founder and CEO of Orascom Conglomerate.
His life began in Upper Egypt, particularly in Sohag Governorate, in 1930.
He received Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Cairo University in 1950.
He began working at agriculture field, after two years he felt he had no place in agriculture domain and began contracting work.
Onsi Sawiris got married to Mrs. Yousriya Loza and has three children (Naguib – Sameeh – Nassif).
He had his first commercial register in 1952; this was the onset of his activity and in 1953, he founded a construction company called “Onsi and Lame’ey” for paving ways and digging irrigation canals.
It was the first company to be founded after the 1952 Revolution and in 1961, the company was nationalized partly then entirely and Engineer Onsi Sawiris remained its CEO for 5 years, and it is now El Nasr Company for Civil Works.
Then he immigrated to Libya in 1966 to work as a contractor for 12 years, but he returned to Egypt in the mid- 1970s.
In 1975, he founded Orascom Company, which became later known as “Orascom Constructions”.
He started his company with three employees only: his niece, Ms. Nabila Al Mana’abady and Engineer Sherif Fanos in a two- room apartment .
Then this entity has turned into a huge world economic one, and its working scope has expanded to include tourism and hotels, telecommunications and construction.
He has been Honorary President and Chief non- executive Director of Orascom Constructions and Industry up till now.
He has been the CEO of Orascom Constructions and Industry which, through his wisdom, has become one of the biggest and best constructions companies in the world.
It has also become one of the biggest companies in the Egyptian stock market half of which, till recently, was Orascom’s.
