Bishop Ermia Participates in the 10th International Scientific Conference of Al-Azhar University’s Faculty of Science Supporting Egypt Vision 2030
His Grace Bishop Ermia, General Bishop and President of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, participated in the activities of the 10th International Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Science (Boys), Al-Azhar University, held in Cairo. The conference commenced on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Al-Azhar Conference Center in Nasr City under the title:
“The Role of Basic Sciences as a Driving Force for Development in Supporting Presidential Initiatives and National Projects to Achieve Egypt Vision 2030.”
The conference was held under the patronage of His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and attended by Prof. Dr. Salama Dawood, President of Al-Azhar University; Prof. Dr. Sayed Bakry, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Seddiq, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Prof. Dr. Mostafa Abdel Ghani, Vice President for the Girls’ Branch; Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ramadan Sofi, Dean of the Faculty of Science (Boys) and Conference President; and Prof. Dr. Kamal Raslan, Vice Dean of the Faculty, alongside a distinguished group of scholars, researchers, and specialists from various scientific institutions.
The conference comes within the framework of supporting the Egyptian state’s orientation toward maximizing the role of scientific research and innovation in addressing national development issues under the slogan: “National Development Led by Science and Knowledge.”
During a symposium held on the sidelines of the conference opening, Bishop Ermia affirmed that Al-Azhar University represents a unique model in the educational process, praising the remarkable academic and scientific efforts exerted by scholars and faculty leaders in serving science and knowledge. He emphasized that “without science, there can be no real progress or development.”
His Grace highlighted the importance of linking education and scientific research with global developments, stressing that comprehensive development has become one of the fundamental pillars of national security for modern states. He noted that Egypt’s political leadership has chosen the path of comprehensive development despite regional and international challenges, aiming to build both the state and the Egyptian citizen.
Bishop Ermia further explained that Egypt Vision 2030 fundamentally focuses on human development through advancing education, healthcare, and the economy, while strengthening scientific research and technological qualification for younger generations to enable them to keep pace with global progress and actively contribute to sustainable development.
He also affirmed that the success of any sustainable development project is closely tied to the consolidation of moral values and ethical principles, pointing to the significant role played by Al-Azhar University and the Egyptian Family House in addressing intellectual challenges through sound scientific dialogue, thereby preserving national identity and strengthening societal cohesion.
His Grace added that presidential initiatives have placed strong emphasis on preparing youth for the labor market and developing technical and university education, efforts that align with Al-Azhar University’s mission to prepare qualified generations capable of leading the future.
Concluding his remarks, Bishop Ermia stressed that genuine development cannot be separated from building the human person scientifically, humanely, and ethically, affirming that adherence to both science and values remains the true guarantee for sustainable progress and societal advancement.
At the conclusion of the conference, Bishop Ermia was honored in recognition of his participation and his role in supporting scientific and cultural dialogue and promoting the values of knowledge and community development, receiving the Conference Shield from the Faculty of Science administration at Al-Azhar University.
