Council of Ministers headed by Engineer Sherif Ismail , the Prime Minister, discusses today, at its weekly meeting, “construction and renovation of churches” bill, in preface of approving it and send it to the State Council to review it before submitting it to the Parliament for approval during the current legislative term in accordance with the provisions of Article 235 of the Constitution.
This comes in the wake of return of consultations between the government and churches about the law, after a broad sector of Copts rejected the wording of the bill that was approved by the churches representatives with the state two weeks ago.
Anba Pola, Bishop of Tanta and related areas and executive of Public Relations Committee of the holy synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church, and representative of the church in the Committee that is putting the law with the government , held a meeting, the day before yesterday, with judge Magdy Agaty, Minister of State for Legal Affairs and the House of Representatives, to discuss the wording of some articles of the law.
This proposed law from the government to build churches includes 8 articles that states: allow the construction, renovation and demolition of churches, and methods of appeal against the rejection of licensing churches at to the administrative court, determines the duration of 4 months for the governors to issue the licenses, rationing the churches and buildings related to the church that was built prior to the issuance of this law after 6 months of the issuance of the law.
