On Sunday, July 23, 2017, morning mass service was held at the Archaeological Church of el-Muharraq Monastery was held in the presence of the body of late Anba Sawiris Bishop and Abbot of the monastery , after mid-night praise. the mass participation was limited to bishops and the monastery monks only.
The mass was attended by a number of Bishops including Anba Kyrollos Bishop of Assiut, Anba Paula Bishop of Tanta, Anba Youannes Bishop of Assiout, Anba Ghobrial Bishop of Beni Suef, Anba Estephanos, Bishop of Baba and El Fashn, Anba Timotheus Bishop of Zagazig and Minya El-Qamh, Anba Zusima Bishop of Atfih, Anba Karas General Bishop of Al-Mahalla Al-Kubra, and Anba Boctor Bishop of el-Wadi el-Gadid.
It is worth mentioning that Bishop Sawiris died at the age of 74, after long suffering with illness. His Holiness Pope Tawadros II yesterday held the funeral service in al–Boutrossiya in Abbasia, with the participation of a large number of church pontiffs.
