At the Evening of the second day of the Holy Synod seminar two lectures were delivered about the Coptic literature Heritage and Coptic identity.
Rev. Basilios Sobhi Vice Dean of the seminary college in Cairo delivered the first lecture that revolved around the Coptic language and heritage of literature, where he stressed on a number of points including the role of the Church in generalizing the use of Coptic writing; translation of the Bible to the Coptic language; the weakness of the Coptic language and the factors behind it; definition of the Coptic literature, its type and time division; the characteristics of the beginnings era to the reign of Pope Athanasius; the Golden age of Coptic literature namely the era of St. Shenouda the Archimandrite and even after the Council of Chalcedon and Copts in the Arab Era as he concluded the lecture by proposing ways to advance the Coptic language and literature.
While Anba Thomas Bishop of El-Quseya delivered the second lecture and spoke about the Egyptian Coptic identity. He explained what is identity and characteristics of religious beliefs influencing the Coptic identification including theological beliefs, liturgical beliefs, canon tradition, literary canon, spiritual folk beliefs, historical beliefs, spiritual ideological beliefs, he also spoke about cultural influences affecting the identity represented in Religion, religious heritage, culture, language, Folklore, values and custom.
The seminar is due to be concluded on Thursday noon.
