The Head of the Anglican Church Synod in Palestine: Christianity is on its way to Extinction in the Gaza Strip
Father Metry Al-Raheb, Head of the Anglican Lutheran Church Synod in Jordan and the Holy Land, stated that there are only 1213 Christian Palestinians, pointing out that Christianity is on a path to extinction in the Strip. He pointed out there is a mass exodus of Christians in Syria, due to the presence of ISIS, affirming there are plenty of challenges facing Christians in the Middle East, most prominent among them the displacement of more than half a million Christians from Iraq.
Al-Hamdaneya District’s Acting Head demands considering the plains of Nineveh a disaster zone… Razzouqi: Christians who were evicted are sleeping in the church courtyards and public parks.
Nisan Karroumi Razzouqi, Acting Head of the Al-Hamdaneya District, demanded freeing the minorities’ areas in the plains of Nineveh, falling in the Al-Hamdaneya and Takleef Districts, near Sinjar, affiliated to the Nineveh province [governorate] in the north of Iraq, and considering it a “disaster” zone. On Saturday, Razzouqi stated that “Christians evicted from the Kurdistan region are now leading harsh lives, sleeping in church courtyards and public parks of the region.” He added, “Many of them are broke, have no ID documents, after being stripped of these by ISIS terrorist forces.” Razzouqi pointed out that the number of Christians displaced from the Al-Hamdaneya district is closing in on 70 thousand people, especially from the Qara Qoush area in Al-Qadaa’ Center, Bartala and Karmalis village. He emphasized the vitality of Christians, Yazidis and other minorities returning to their areas, after they are liberated, with international protection forces dispersed through the areas, with compensation given to them for their losses, and considering their areas disaster zones.”
Worth noting, more than 100 thousand Christians fled their villages in the plains of Nineveh, after ISIS forces took control on 6th and 7th August, after the sudden withdrawal of armed Kurdish forces that were protecting them.
