Security authorities in Menya managed to contained a sectarian crisis, after Muslims and Christians of the Jeneinet Tharwat area of Mallawi county, south of the province clashed, after a Muslim student was killed and his brother injured, and a Copt’s home was burned, because of a car crash. A brawl broke out between:
First Party: Mahmoud, 16 [Azhar student], died of a stab wound on left side of chest, and his brother Waleed, 16, student in Agricultural high school, was wounded, with scratches and bruises on back, chest and legs, and Mohammed, 50, a peasant, and Hassan, 35, a construction laborer.
Second Party: Ramy, 33, laborer in a gold jewelry store, his brother Hany, 26, laborer in the jewelry store, and Osama, 28, laborer, currently at large, following a verbal quarrel that escalated to a brawl, after the first party’s car crashed into a private car owned by members of the second party. The fight escalated, during which each of them assaulted the other with blows causing injuries, and using white weapons “a knife” against the deceased student, causing him to lose his life. Upon this occurrence, family of the deceased headed to the home of the accused and torched it, resulting in the burning down of the fifth person’s apartment.
The administrative police report No. 2331 was filed at the Mallawi police station, and the prosecutor handled interrogation of the suspect.
