Sister Maria Ramses, a Coptic Orthodox nun in Palestine, revealed that Copts monastery in Bethlehem in Palestine, was attacked by a neighbor who wanted to seize a part of it, claiming his ownership of the place.
Sister Maria said: “While restoring and repairing the monastery, we were attacked by a neighbor, who claimed his ownership a part of the monastery.
She explained that after riding the diplomatic car owned by the church with sister “Ester”, a policeman and a worker, the aggressors attacked them, using an iron bar and car “jack” , and caused damage in the car, Pointing out that they are fine, and did not inflict physical harm.
For his part, Anba Antonios, Metropolitan of the Coptic Orthodox Church in Jerusalem and the Near East, confirmed that the church took all legal action against this attack to prevent its recurrence.
The Coptic Monastery of Bethlehem was founded by late Anba Yacobos Bishop of Jerusalem in the 1950s, as he bought four adjoining houses, converted one of them to a church, while the rest became a monastery for Coptic nuns. He named the Church St. Mary church in Bethlehem of Copts Orthodox ” and it was officially inaugurated by Anba Basilius, Metropolitan of Jerusalem in 1963.
