His Holiness Pope Tawadros II Pope of Alexandria, and Patriarch of the see of Saint Mark, expressed his hope that Iraq problems be solved , pointing out that Iraq, is a country with an ancient civilization and that monasticism arrived to the Mesopotamia, stressing that that the Egyptians rejoice when any achievement happen in Iraq. Yesterday morning , His Holiness welcomed Iraqi President Fuad Masum and his accompanying delegation, at the papal, saying: “Welcome to the Coptic Orthodox Church Pontifical in Cairo.” HH Pope Tawadros II continued”we are happy for President Fuad Masum visit , Iraq occupies a prominent place in our hearts and here in Egypt we study civilization of Mesopotamia with Egyptian civilization, Iraq has a long history of civilization as well as Christian history, we find in the history of monasticism that there are ties between the monasteries of Egypt and hermits who went to Iraq and Mesopotamia and monuments tell it. “ The Pope said: “We are following what is happening in Iraq, both in ancient history or modern history and we hope Iraq’s return to glory and civilization and its effectiveness as an Arab state. He continued: “we are happy that there is a Coptic church in Baghdad and we have a monk there monk Mina of Jerusalem and this demonstrate the generosity of this country.”
He concluded by saying: “We wish peace for all people in all the world we pray for the Christians and Muslims and every suffering human being and we pray that God puts compassion and humanitarian sympathy for those who had committed the painful acts, and pray to solve the problems of Iraq.”
