The Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center in cooperation with Pope Shenouda III Center for Church history held on Saturday, August 26, to attend the first seminar about the Church History “the Council of Nicaea”.
The Seminar was preceded by the Holy Mass that presided over by HG Anba Raphael, Secretary of the Holy Synod and with the participation of a number of bishops and priests, and attended by a number of Coptic congregation and seminar participants at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center at the Cathedral of St. Mark in Abbasiya.
The seminar included several lectures and discussions from the audience with bishops about doctrinal and religious issues.
HG Anba Raphael, secretary of the Holy Synod, gave a lecture entitled “Creed in the thought of St. Athanasius the Apostolic”, HG Anba Makari spoke about “Liturgy and how it maintained the faith in the fourth century”, HG Anba Angelos spoke about “The trouble that followed St. Athanasius after the Council of Nicaea”, Fr. Bishoy Helmi Spoke about History of the Nicene Creed (faith of the church) with an explanation of its meanings and Fr. Youssef Samir spoke about Levels of teaching of the Council of Nicaea for different stages it is worth mentioning the Council of Nicaea is the first Ecumenical Council of the seven ecumenical councils, according to the Roman and Byzantine Churches and one of the four ecumenical councils..
Council of Nicaea, (325), the first ecumenical council of the Christian church, meeting in ancient Nicaea (now İznik, Tur.). It was called by the emperor Constantine I, an unbaptized catechumen, or neophyte, who presided over the opening session and took part in the discussions. He hoped a general council of the church would solve the problem created in the Eastern church by Arianism, a heresy first proposed by Arius of Alexandria that affirmed that Christ is not divine but a created being.
