The start of Copts in Canada conference to support Egypt against terrorism…and Calls for an amnesty for contempt of religion defendants

Yesterday Copts in Canada held an international conference to support Egypt against terrorism in Toronto, in the presence of the author and writer Fatima Naaot.

The conference started with the National anthem and was attended by a number of Canadian officials, and the Canadian Parliament. 

For his part, Dr. Hany Shenouda, head of the Union of Copts in Canada, said that Despite the absence of TV presenter Yusuf al-Husseini and  former Foreign Minister Mohamed Orabi who were officially invited to the Conference,  we refused to postpone or cancel the conference because it’s goal is to support Egypt in such hard circumstances. 

Dr. Hany Shenouda confirmed: we have received threats from the Muslim Brotherhood in Canada because of the conference, but we are taking all security measures to secure the conference, pointing out that we will give our proposals in an official note to the Egyptian government and the Egyptian Ambassador in Canada.

Hany Shenouda revealed that the conference will address a number of topics, including how to confront terror and help Egypt, unlearn the concept of Egypt’s new immigration law, citizenship mechanisms, activate the prevention of discrimination law, contempt of religion law, freedom of opinion law, how to activate the role of Egyptian migrants and benefit from their expertise, Egyptians abroad proposals for linking them with their homeland, the Egyptians integration into Canadian society and activate Egyptian political role in Canada.

The head of the Conference asked President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi  amnesty for writer and poet Fatima Naaot, Islam Buhairi, the four Children accused of defamation of religions, the Coptic teacher and  Coptic teacher Demiana as a gift to the Egyptian people so that Egypt will not be accused of stifling the mouths of thinkers, and he demanded to abolish the contempt of religions law because it’s violate the constitution and human rights.
