The Coptic Orthodox Church issued a statement regarding the fire that took place in St. Virgin Mary church in Nasiriyah – Bani Mazar.
On Saturday, after holding the morning mass and closing of the doors of the church around 9:00 am , a fire broke out in St. Virgin Mary Church around 1:00 pm.
The residents of the village of Nasiriyah. Muslims and Copts, tried to control the fire before civil protection came and extinguished the fire .
The cause of the fire is not yet known and criminal investigation police are currently investigating to find out the real causes of the fire.
Copts and Muslims were injured and 11 people, left the hospital after having treatment.
As for the damage caused by the fire, the roof, walls and altars were destroyed.
