Maj. Gen. Mustafa Mokbel, Sohag director of security, confirmed that 14 of the instigators and participants in the village of “Al-Ghanamish” sedition in Dar El-Salaam were arrested.
Mokbel added in a press statement on Friday the situation is now under control thanks to the spirit of love and tolerance that prevails among the villagers, asking them for self-control.
As Dr. Ayman Abdel Moneim governor of Sohag said that state law will be enforced on the two parties, and will take all measures against all tempted to attack on the citizens sanctity, stressing that all are equal.
Abdel Moneim said that the friendly meeting, which has took place to clear the air between the people of the village will not prevent punishing who committed the incident and take all legal proceedings against them.
Al-Ghanamish Village in Dar El-Salaam in Sohag Governorate witnessed sectarian strife on Friday on the back of a rumor that spread after Friday prayers of converting a host into a church in the village, and Muslims set fire in the host and burned it completely while some Copts gathered to try to put out the flames.
