Dr. Khaled Siddiq, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of Al-Azhar in Assiut, said that Christian student Abanoub Gerges Naeem, who was said to be the first Christian student studying in Al-Azhar, applied to the College to spend two-months training. He was accepted like other students who wish to spend internship at the College.
The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of Al-Azhar university in Assiut, said that this is the first case for distinction training, noting that the College constantly hold training courses and workshops attended by Christian students, which is normal.
He continued: The meeting of the University Council today with Sheikh Al-Azhar was held to confirm the confidence of the University Council in the decisions of the Grand Imam , where Sheikh of Al-Azhar addressed the matter and commended it, stressing that this is the role of Al-Azhar towards all citizens of the nation without differentiation, adding that the Council also at its meeting today welcomed the matter .
Dr. Khaled Siddiq explained that the Christian student did not study at Al-Azhar, since the university’s laws do not allow this, stressing that it does not exceed the training period for distinction year only, and that he is studying at the University of Renaissance in Beni Suef.
