At the dawn of Sunday, the Triple beatified, Anba Epiphanios, Abbot of St. Macarius (Abou Makar) Monastery at Wadi Natroun, departed at the age of 64 years.
Anba Epiphnios is considered one of the disciples of late Fr. Matta El Masken, and took over the monastery in 2013 when late Anba Mikhael, Metropolitan of Assiut, expressed his desire to leave his position as the head of the monastery due to his age,93, and his health and secret ballot took place and the monks of St. Macarius (Abou Makar) monastery (100 monks) voted on Sunday, February 3, 2013 to elect the Abbot of the monastery.
Voting was taken in the presence of the secretary of Pope Tawadros, Fr. Angelos, and the result was the selection of Monk Epiphanios alMakary by the majority of votes, according to the statement of His Holiness Pope.
This choice was supported by Anba Mikhael, who presided over the monastery for about 65 years before his departure, with a written recommendation received by monk Epiphanios by hand, and in turn handed it to Pope Tawadros.
