After a rumor that the church installed a new bell spread, Hundreds of extremists demonstrators attacked on Friday, December 22, 2017 St. Tadros Church in Kafr Al-Waslin, Giza, wounding three people.
The incident took place after Friday prayers when dozens of demonstrators gathered outside the church and stormed it. The demonstrators chanted hostile slogans and called for the church’s demolition. The demonstrators destroyed the church’s contents and assaulted Christians inside before security personnel arrived and dispersed them.
The wounded were transferred to a nearby hospital, the diocese said after the attack.
A media co-ordinator at the diocese, the Rev. Yehnes Youssef, said later on Saturday that three Copts were wounded but have been treated.
“A large number of people have stormed the place where prayers and rituals have been held in Atfih for nearly 15 years and broke their contents after Friday prayers. Some of the wounded were taken to hospital and the security forces cordoned off the church” HG Anba Zosima said in a telephone interview with MESat.
