On December 22, 2017, St. Tadros Church, in the village of Kafr al-Waselin in Atfih, was attacked by hundreds of people who gathered in front of the building after Friday prayers, chanting hostile slogans demanding the destruction of the church. They then stormed the place and destroyed its contents and assaulted the Christians who were present. After the security forces arrived, they dispersed the demonstrators and secured the area.
It is worth mentioning that attacked place has been holding prayers for nearly 15 years. The Diocese had officially sought to legalize the building’s status under a 2016 law that laid down the rules for building churches.
