Foreword
St. Gregory the Theologian was unique in his eloquence and outstanding performance and in his ability to apprehend long term facts, interpreting them in a way adhered to by the succeeding generations and council.
His sermons given at the Church’s ministry and feasts reveals him as one of the most wonderful eloquent sermonizers of good style, high spirituality and wide knowledge.
In this sermon, he directs our hearts and minds towards heaven, the dwelling place of the Holy Trinity, explaining to us how we would celebrate feasts according to what pleases the Holy Spirit, mentioning the number 7, its honor in the Old Testament, he then speaks about the Divinity of the Holy Spirit and His work in us, as He renews us. He also explains the story of the descent of the Holy Spirit and the miracle of speaking with tongues, and how the prophets had preached the Spirit of God.
This sermon was translated by Mr. Remon Youssef Rizq, Researcher at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center, from the Greek text published in “The Patrologia Graeca” collection, page 36: 427 – 452. May the Lord of Heaven benefit us with it for our salvation and the construction of His one Church, through the intercession of St. Virgin Mary and St. Gregory the Theologian.
