There have been attacks on a Coptic family in the Al-Tayyeba village affiliated to Samalout, north of Menya province [Upper Egypt], due to neighbors’ conflicts, resulting in injury of two Coptic women and arrest of 10 Coptic men.
Raymond Ramses the lawyer has said: The incident was sparked when a semi-trailer loaded with sand, owned by the husband of one of the two injured Coptic women, struck another parked car, which caused the Islamic side to attack the women of the household, injuring them. Immediately after, a clash broke out in which a number of the Islamic villagers intervened to vindicate their neighbor against the Coptic family, which turned the village into a battlefront between the two families, using machetes and sticks, destroying the Coptic man’s car.
He pointed out that as soon as security forces intervened, a security parameter was implemented on the village, as a precaution of renewal of any other attacks. The injured were transferred to Samalout General Hospital, and 10 Coptic men were arrested for interrogation and a report of the incident was filed.
