Foreword
“The Cross: the Permanent Eternal Sign” book is prepared and authored by rhe Reverend Archpriest Mina Gad, the priest of St. Virgin Mary’s Church – Esna.
In his epistle to Galatians, our teacher Paul the Apostle wrote: “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6:14)
Hence, the cross has become a sign by which Christians boast, because: “the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18).
In this valuable research, the author walks about through fourteen chapters, tackling the holy cross in the Old Testament’s prophecies, the testimonies of the fathers and monuments, the cross in daily life, the cross is the sign of the Son of Man, the cross is the seal of the living God, fathers’ quotes, signs and symbols, Emperor Constantine and Queen Helena and their relation to the cross, special feasts of the cross, the theological meanings, and he concluded with some stories about the cross.
May the Lord make this book a reason of blessing to all who read it, through the intercessions of St. Virgin Mary, and the prayers of the great martyr St. Mark the Apostle, the preacher of Egyptian homes, and through the prayers of His Holiness Great Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark.
