News just in from the town of Madagali in Adamawa state, North-East of Nigeria, tells of armed militants from the Boko Haram extremist group, who’ve taken control of a Catholic Church and residential complex affiliated to it, days after invading the town. The Church’s press secretary, Fr. Gideon Obasogie stated on Friday that “Christians in town are going through harsh times, being slaughtered and forced to convert to Islam by the group, and their women are being taken hostage.” He expressed his hole that the Nigerian government would work to restore security in the town, pointing out that the church has closed all its affiliated dioceses on the road that connects the state of Adamawa with the state of Borno, the main hotspot of the Boko Haram group, accused by Nigerian and international authorities of killing and injuring thousands in the past few years, and halting commercial trade in many areas of North-East Nigeria.
