Midnight was held on Sunday July 22, 2017, at the ancient church at the Monastery of St. Mary «Muharraq», where the bishops and monks surrounded the body of the late Anba Sawiris Abbot of the monastery. After the conclusion of midnight prayers and praise, the Divine Liturgy began.
Prayers and praise were attended by their eminences Anba Kyrollos, Bishop of Nagaa Hamadi, Anba Paula, Bishop of Tanta, Anba Youannas, Bishop of Assiut, Anba Gabriel, Bishop of Beni Suef, Anba Estephanus, Bishop of Beba and El Fashn, Bishop Timotheus, Bishop of Zagazig and Minya El-Qamh, and Anba Zusima, Bishop of Atfih.
On Friday, July 21, 2017, Anba Sawiris Bishop and Abbot of St. Mary “el-Muharraq” monastery departed after long suffering with illness, and funeral service was held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 in al-Boutrossiya and headed by HH Pope Tawadros II and a number of church pontiffs before transferring his body to his monastery.
