“Forgive them” are the last words spoken by a 12-year-old Iraqi Christian girl who died in her mother’s arms after suffering from fourth degree burns caused by the Islamic State militants.
The names of the mother and daughter Christians who lived in Mosul, Iraq and met the terrible fate at the hands of the extremists are withheld, but a human rights attorney, Jacqueline Isaac, has narrated the tragedy, according to Express.
The militants were reportedly doing their door-to-door threats to demand money for their religious tax or what they call as Jaziya.
Isaac narrated, “The ISIS foreign fighters were at her door and they told her ‘you have two choices, you are to leave now or you are to pay the Jaziya.
“She said ‘I will pay, give me a few seconds my daughter is in the shower.’
“They said ‘you don’t have a few seconds’ and they lit the house with a torch from the bathroom the daughter was showering in.”
The militants burned down the family’s home as the mother and daughter were engulfed in flames. The two were able to escape the fire but the injuries were already severe. Isaac continued, “The daughter had fourth degree burns and the mother took her daughter, scrambling, doing anything to save her.”
Isaac said the daughter was taken to the hospital but died in her mother’s arms hours later. “The last thing her daughter said: ‘Forgive them’,” ended Isaac.
