Pope Tawadros’ Sermon [Virtues & Obstacles of a Life of Contentment]

HH Pope Tawadros II delivered his weekly sermon on Wednesday 13-8-2014 at the St. Mark’s Cathedral entitled “Virtues & Obstacles of a Life of Contentment”

Last week, we covered the life of contentment, and because we are in a period of revival of the Virgin St. Mary, so we place before us the powerful example of a life of contentment, and we mentioned that this virtue is requisite in man’s life. Last week, we also covered the nature of a life of contentment and characteristics of a human who lives such a life, focusing on the statement of St. Paul the Apostle in the Epistle to Philippians: “For I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” Today, he tells us “You yourselves know that these hands have provided for my necessities, and for those who were with me” as well as “I have coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel.”

Today, we tackle the virtues of a life of contentment and the obstacles confronting such a life. It is beneficial to place before our eyes the Virgin Mary as an epitome of the life, for which we are all in need.

A person who leads a life of contentment is a virtuous person. Contentment is not a single virtue, but a collection of virtues.
