This morning, Saturday, September 2, 2023 witnessed the launch of the second day of the Ninth Conference on Ecclesiastical History “The Eighth Century, Difficulties and Transformations” at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center. The attendees included Their Graces Bishop Raphael, General Bishop of the Churches of Central Cairo, and Bishop Ermia, the General Bishop and Head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center.
The activities of the conference’s second day began with the Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Grace Bishop Raphael, at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center.
Following the Divine Liturgy prayers, the sessions of the second day of the conference began
His Grace Bishop Ermia delivered the opening lecture of the second day of the conference entitled “The Abbasid State,” followed by a lecture delivered by His Grace Bishop Raphael entitled “Heresies and Heterodoxies of the Eighth Century,” followed by a lecture by Archdeacon Roshdi Wassef entitled “Liturgy in the Eighth Century.” For his part, Father Takla Naguib gave a lecture entitled “The Patriarchs of the Eighth Century” Also, Prof. Dr. Ishak Ajban, delivered a lecture entitled “The Eighth Century Panorama.”
Deacon Zakaria Abdel Sayed gave a lecture entitled “People’s Revolutions in the Eighth Century.” His Grace Bishop Martiros’ lecture was entitled “Social Life in the Eighth Century.”
The conference was held at the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center in Anba Rewis, Abbasiya, in partnership with Pope Shenouda III Center for Ecclesiastical History in central Cairo and the Institute of Coptic Studies.
