HH Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the see of St. Mark met with senior writers and journalists at Al-Ahram headquarters in downtown Cairo on Tuesday to inaugurate an exhibition displaying some of the paper’s oldest editions and historic belongings.
During the visit, the pope met with Al-Ahram chairman Abdel Mohsen Salama, editor-in-chief Alaa Thabet as well as a number of the organization’s senior writers and officials.
Pope Tawadros hailed the 142-year-old paper’s role in shaping his intellect and said he grew up reading the publication.
Al-Ahram, the oldest news organization in Egypt, was founded in August 1875.
The paper was first launched as a weekly publication before later becoming a daily in August 1876.
