A sage said, “Remember that you are not the only sad person in the world. Not all people are happy as you think.” Do not judge things by their appearance. Learn to listen attentively and understand what others say or, even better, do not. Whoever you encounter could have more (or less) joy, pain, or experience than yours. Yet, definitely you do not know better than he does. So, be a friend, not judge, of whoever you encounter. Likewise, judge not any situation without profoundly looking into it.
How impressive it was to know about a specialist who was summoned by the hospital to perform an urgent surgery! Before the surgery, the patient’s father met him and yelled, “Why are you late? We’ve been waiting for you for ages! My only son is in danger and might die. Don’t feel what a father is like?” The surgeon tried to appease the father, saying, “Calm down, please. I’ll do my share. Trust God who takes care of us.” Yet, the father was infuriated and said, “I see you don’t appreciate a father’s feelings! Would have ever been so calm to the extent of senselessness if your son’s life were in danger?” The doctor glanced at him, then hurried to the operating theater. Two hours elapsed, after which the doctor came out to tell the man hurriedly, “Thank God. The operation was a success. Your son is alright.” The doctor left, without giving the man a chance for further inquiries. The man got upset and told the nurse, “This surgeon is quite vain.” She said, “Though his son died in a car accident, he came quickly when he was informed of your son’s condition! Having saved your son, he had to hurry to bury his own!” The man kept quiet!
Mark this: judging people and situations is pretty hard. So, be human. Remember that people want you to feel them and understand the pain they cannot express. During our lifetime, we encounter counselors whose advise we should heed without being shaken by their way of expression. It is said, “Should anybody advise you harshly, do not interrupt him. Utilize his remarks: for his cruelty hides great love. Don’t be like the man who broke his alarm clock because it awoke him.” Try to heed the value of the words and situations you come by: for life is journey; if you find hard paths therein, do not stop, but go forward.
